Hazards of Colored Contact Lenses to the Eyes
Disease description:
Seeing others wearing colored contact lenses and looking very attractive, I also want to get a pair for myself. Could you please tell me what potential harms colored contact lenses may pose to the eyes?
Wearing colored contact lenses (cosmetic contact lenses) can cause a certain degree of corneal abrasion. During wear, bacterial infection may lead to conjunctivitis or keratitis in patients. A small number of individuals may also develop allergic reactions or toxicity symptoms due to the lens soaking solution. Additionally, the material of cosmetic contact lenses generally has poor oxygen permeability; when adhered to the eyeball, it can cause ocular hypoxia and reduced resistance.
