What Causes Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase Levels in Infants?
Disease description:
My baby has just been born, and during the examination, it was found that the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level is elevated. I would like to know what causes elevated alkaline phosphatase in infants.
Elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in infants may result from pathological conditions such as obstructive jaundice, acute hepatitis with jaundice, cirrhosis, or hepatic necrosis. However, in some infants, elevated ALP is physiological rather than pathological. If cardiac enzymes, transaminases, globulins, and other relevant laboratory parameters are all within normal ranges, the elevation is typically benign and commonly observed during pregnancy or the neonatal period.
