What Are the Hazards of Oral Ingestion of Rose Essential Oil?
I purchased rose essential oil, originally intended for skincare, but accidentally ingested a small amount today. I would like to know the potential hazards of orally ingesting rose essential oil.
Rose essential oil is a skincare product that helps beautify the skin and is generally not recommended for oral consumption.
Rose essential oil may contain trace amounts of harmful substances, such as pesticide residues or other undesirable impurities. Long-term oral intake can cause gastrointestinal burns, impair digestive function, and manifest as symptoms including a burning sensation, acid reflux, and nausea. Additionally, it may affect women’s endocrine system—for instance, if taken orally shortly before menstruation, rose essential oil could potentially increase menstrual flow.
