How to treat thickened toenails
Disease description:
Recently, while trimming my nails, I noticed symptoms such as nail thickening and yellowing. What should I do if my toenails have become thickened?
When toenails become yellow and thickened:
If only a single toenail is affected, begin by soaking the foot in warm water to soften the nail, then carefully trim it using specialized nail clippers. Apply an antifungal medication for onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) to the affected area. Additionally, keep the feet dry at all times. In some cases, oral antifungal medication may be necessary.
However, if multiple toenails become yellow and thickened, seek medical attention promptly at a hospital. Also, maintain good hygiene to prevent cross-infection.
