What are the main causes of hyperdontia?
Disease description:
Recently, an extra tooth was discovered in my child. The doctor diagnosed it as hyperdontia. What are the main causes of hyperdontia?
The primary cause of hyperdontia is likely related to genetics; if either parent has hyperdontia, the child’s risk of developing the condition is elevated. However, acquired (non-genetic) factors cannot be ruled out. Hyperdontia typically does not manifest externally—most supernumerary teeth remain embedded within the bone. In severe cases, they may interfere with the eruption and development of normal teeth and even cause tooth root resorption or fracture.
