What should I do for drug allergy-induced urticaria?
Disease description:
Last night, I took some penicillin, and this morning I noticed hives appearing on my skin, accompanied by intense itching. I would like to know how to manage drug-induced allergic hives.
Urticaria caused by drug allergy requires immediate discontinuation of the offending drug, followed by substitution with an alternative medication. Next, under a physician’s guidance, topical medications may be applied to relieve pruritus—commonly used agents include calamine lotion or topical corticosteroid creams, such as triamcinolone acetonide cream or hydrocortisone cream. For severe pruritus, oral antihistamines may also be prescribed.
