Can individuals with high-level quadriplegia have children?
Disease description:
Due to an accident, I sustained a high-level spinal cord injury resulting in quadriplegia. I got married last year and would like to know whether individuals with high-level spinal cord injuries can have children.
For women with high-level paraplegia, fertility is generally unaffected, as high-level paraplegia primarily impairs limb function and sensation—resulting in quadriplegia—but does not typically compromise reproductive capacity. However, vaginal delivery is relatively uncommon among pregnant women with high-level paraplegia; most opt for cesarean delivery. During pregnancy, women with high-level paraplegia should actively mobilize their limbs and frequently reposition themselves to prevent venous thrombosis and pressure ulcers.
