What does elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in liver function tests indicate?
Disease description:
I picked up my physical examination report today, which shows elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in my liver function test. I would like to know what causes elevated ALP.
Elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in liver function tests may result from physiological increases or from hepatobiliary diseases such as liver cancer or cirrhosis. Additionally, bone disorders—including osteosarcoma and osteoporosis—cannot be ruled out. It is recommended to identify the underlying cause and initiate targeted treatment. Do not self-medicate indiscriminately, as this may lead to adverse effects or worsen symptoms.
