Miconazole Cream: Mechanism of Action and Therapeutic Effects
Disease description:
My son has had recurrent inflammation at the corners of his mouth over the past few days. His doctor recommended using some miconazole cream. Could you please tell me what this medication does and what its therapeutic effects are?
Miconazole Nitrate Cream is an antifungal medication that primarily works by inhibiting the synthesis of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting fungal metabolic processes. Clinically, it is used to treat dermatophyte-induced conditions such as tinea versicolor, onychomycosis (fungal nail infection), and tinea manuum/pedius (hand/foot ringworm). It is also indicated for yeast-induced vaginal infections. Additionally, miconazole nitrate cream may be used to treat otitis externa (outer ear infection) and angular cheilitis.
