Can a comminuted patellar fracture heal normally?
Disease description:
My husband got into a fight and just underwent surgery for a fracture. Can a comminuted patellar fracture recover to normal?
With appropriate treatment and adequate rehabilitation, a comminuted patellar fracture can heal to restore normal function. Following a patellar fracture—particularly a comminuted one—if the articular surface of the patella is accurately reconstructed during surgery and the knee is immobilized with a cast, followed by a period of postoperative recovery and subsequent rational, effective functional training, patients can generally regain their pre-injury functional status.
