Can I have sex while pregnant?
Disease description:
Recently, my husband has frequently wanted to be intimate, but I’m pregnant and worried it might have adverse effects. May I ask: Is it safe to have sexual intercourse during pregnancy?
Sexual intercourse is generally permissible during pregnancy. Although, in theory, sexual activity is safe throughout pregnancy, it is advisable to avoid intercourse during the first trimester (first three months), as it may significantly increase the risk of miscarriage. Similarly, sexual intercourse is not recommended during the late stages of pregnancy (third trimester), because the placenta begins to descend, and intercourse at this time may raise the risk of preterm labor. Therefore, if sexual activity is desired, the safest period is typically the second trimester—approximately months 5 to 8 of pregnancy—when the fetus is relatively stable.
