Treatment Methods for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Disease description:
My mother has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and frequently compels others to do things they dislike. I would like to know what treatment options are available for OCD.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is commonly treated with medications. First-line pharmacotherapies include sertraline, paroxetine, and fluoxetine, which help reduce obsessive thoughts as well as compulsive behaviors and other associated symptoms. Additional treatment options include escitalopram and clomipramine. Furthermore, antipsychotic agents such as risperidone, olanzapine, and quetiapine may be used as adjunctive therapy to enhance the efficacy of the aforementioned medications.
