What to Do When Your Baby Has Acute Diarrhea
Disease description:
My baby is over one year old and suddenly developed acute diarrhea today. What should I do?
If a baby develops acute diarrhea, parents should promptly take the baby to the hospital for a complete blood count (CBC) and routine stool examination. An elevated white blood cell count suggests bacterial infection–induced diarrhea, requiring antibiotic treatment—such as cefixime granules for children. If oral antibiotics prove ineffective, intravenous administration may be necessary. Ensure the baby gets adequate rest.
