What Is Nodulocystic Acne?
Disease description:
I have developed numerous large, hard acne lesions on my face that are palpable. My doctor diagnosed it as nodulocystic acne. What is nodulocystic acne?
Nodulocystic acne is the most severe form of acne, clinically characterized by nodules, cysts, and pustules. If not promptly treated, it can lead to scarring at the affected sites. The pathogenesis of this acne subtype is complex and is generally associated with abnormal keratinization of the pilosebaceous duct, endocrine factors, and elevated androgen levels.
