How to Achieve Healthy Birth and Child Development
Disease description:
My spouse and I have been married for six months, and we are now planning to start a family. However, I experienced one missed abortion before marriage, which has left me quite anxious. Could you please advise on how to achieve healthy conception and optimal prenatal care?
To achieve optimal preconception care and healthy pregnancy outcomes, both partners should undergo a comprehensive physical examination three months prior to attempting conception. This includes screening for the “five infectious agents associated with congenital abnormalities” (i.e., TORCH panel: Toxoplasma gondii, Other agents, Rubella virus, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes simplex virus) to assess potential teratogenic viral infections. Both partners should begin preconception health optimization—including daily folic acid supplementation—and eliminate unhealthy habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption, while also ensuring adequate intake of essential trace elements. The female partner should undergo specific evaluations of thyroid function and liver and kidney function. If all test results are normal, conception may be planned.
