What items are included in a gynecological examination?
Disease description:
I’m going for a physical examination this week, specifically a gynecological exam. I’d like to ask my doctor: What does a gynecological exam typically include?
Hello, gynecological examinations are generally intended for married women or those who are sexually active. For unmarried women with an intact hymen, gynecological examinations are not routinely recommended. A gynecological examination typically includes: inspection of the external genitalia; examination of the vaginal walls and assessment for any vaginal anomalies; evaluation for vaginal discharge and routine laboratory testing of such discharge; inspection of the cervical os for conditions such as erosion, cysts, hypertrophy, or hyperplasia; assessment of uterine size and position within the pelvis; and evaluation of the adnexal structures (e.g., ovaries and fallopian tubes) for tenderness, pain upon palpation, or palpable masses. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
