Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatment for adenomyosis is generally conservative. Adenomyosis is commonly attributed to imbalances in Qi and blood circulation and endocrine dysfunction. Under a physician’s guidance, patients may take herbal decoctions orally or undergo treatments such as herbal enemas, blood-activating and stasis-resolving therapies, and meridian-regulating interventions to promote smooth flow of Qi and blood. Some patients may also receive TCM physical therapies to enhance pelvic blood circulation and facilitate absorption of ectopic endometrial tissue. Herbal enemas are another commonly employed therapeutic approach.
