Disease description:

My friend gave birth to her baby half a month ago. The baby’s jaundice subsided for a few days but then reappeared. After examination, it was diagnosed as breast milk jaundice. May I ask: Can breast milk jaundice recur?

Breast milk jaundice may recur. If breast milk jaundice occurs, temporarily discontinuing breastfeeding for 1–2 days may lead to a noticeable reduction in jaundice; however, jaundice may reappear upon resuming breastfeeding. Nevertheless, even with recurrent episodes, cessation of breastfeeding is generally not recommended for uncomplicated breast milk jaundice. If the jaundice is severe, it is advisable to visit a reputable local hospital for appropriate diagnostic tests to determine the underlying cause and receive targeted treatment.
