Disease description:

In recent years, I’ve experienced significant facial hollowing—particularly in the temples. A beauty salon suggested autologous fat grafting. What are the potential risks of autologous fat grafting for the temples?

Special caution is required during temporal autologous fat grafting, as fat may inadvertently be injected into blood vessels, leading to fat embolism. Fat embolism can cause pain, swelling, and—severely—local skin hemorrhage or necrosis; in extreme cases, it may even be life-threatening. After autologous fat grafting to the temples, some of the transplanted fat is inevitably absorbed. Uneven absorption may result in localized contour irregularities, such as bumps or depressions.
