To treat keloidal acne scars, patients may receive intralesional injections of anti-fibrotic medications under a physician’s guidance. Triamcinolone acetonide is commonly used; it not only softens existing scars but also inhibits further scar proliferation. Alternatively, patients may undergo fractional laser therapy at a hospital, which works by disrupting scar tissue fibers to stimulate collagen regeneration in the skin. For patients with large-volume scars, surgical excision may be performed at a hospital.
