How to Address Snoring in Newborns
Disease description:
My baby has been snoring while sleeping over the past two days. How should snoring in newborns be managed?
Newborns who snore should adopt an improved sleeping position—specifically, side-lying—to prevent interference with normal breathing. Compared with supine positioning, side-lying helps reduce posterior displacement of the tongue base and thereby alleviates snoring. Additionally, ensure the baby is not overly fatigued during the day and provide a quiet sleep environment. It is also important to monitor and maintain a healthy weight, as obesity can compromise the infant’s airway and contribute to snoring. If pathological snoring occurs frequently, medical evaluation at a hospital is recommended.
