Frequent fetal hiccups in utero are a normal phenomenon. During the process of swallowing amniotic fluid, the fetus may experience diaphragmatic spasms, leading to hiccups. Swallowing amniotic fluid helps enhance the baby’s respiratory function and lung development, making it a relatively common physiological occurrence. However, if fetal movement becomes unusually frequent, timely fetal heart rate monitoring is essential to rule out fetal hypoxia.
