During a glycolic acid peel, the acid is applied topically to the mole; its caustic effect gradually dissolves the affected skin tissue, thereby removing the mole. Alternatively, laser therapy may be used—this method primarily relies on photothermal effects to fragment pigment granules deep within the skin, ultimately eliminating the mole.
