The “Four Preconception Health Screening Tests” (also known as the “Four Tests for Healthy Pregnancy and Childbirth”) screen for infections caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV), rubella virus, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Toxoplasma gondii. These tests help prevent fetal malformations resulting from maternal viral or parasitic infections. Past (remote) infections typically pose no risk to pregnancy; however, recent infections require prompt treatment, and conception should be postponed until test results become negative.
