Disease description:

I’ve noticed that there are no lunulae (the white, crescent-shaped areas) on my fingernails. I’ve heard this indicates poor health—is it true that lacking lunulae on the fingernails signifies an unhealthy condition?

The absence of lunulae (the “moons”) on the fingernails does not indicate poor health, as there is no direct correlation between the two. In clinical medicine, the lunula is referred to as the “nail lunula.” It tends to become more prominent when nail growth is relatively rapid. Due to individual variation, some people may have less visible or even absent lunulae—this does not necessarily signify any underlying health problem.
