Frequent blinking in children can be attributed to either physiological or pathological causes. Physiological causes include visual fatigue (which can be relieved with warm compresses to the eyes), trichiasis (requiring medical removal at a hospital), intraocular foreign bodies (which must be removed using specialized instruments), trace element deficiencies (addressed by appropriate supplementation), and imitation behavior (managed by redirecting the child’s attention). Pathological causes include refractive errors (corrected with prescription eyeglasses), inflammatory conditions (treated with antibacterial medications for bacterial conjunctivitis), dry eye syndrome (managed with artificial tear eye drops or oral vitamin A soft capsules), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (managed by redirecting the child’s attention).
