Will systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) be inherited by children born to affected mothers?
Disease description:
I have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and am planning to have a child. I’m concerned about the possibility of passing it on genetically—will SLE be inherited by my child?
Having children when suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may involve a genetic risk. SLE is an autoimmune connective tissue disease; its exact cause remains unclear but is thought to involve genetic factors, immune system dysregulation, and hormonal imbalances. Consequently, there is a potential for SLE to be inherited by offspring. A family history of SLE warrants special attention.
