Disease description:

My baby is about to turn two years old, and it’s time for the second dose of the live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine. However, due to recent mild illness and pandemic-related control measures restricting travel, we are unable to go out for the vaccination. Could you please advise how long the second dose of the live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine can be delayed?

Dr. Xie Zixing

The second dose of the attenuated live Japanese encephalitis vaccine is typically administered after the child turns two years old. If the child develops fever, an infectious disease, or other abnormal conditions, vaccination may be appropriately postponed.

For temporary physical discomfort requiring postponement, vaccination may be delayed by 1 to 4 weeks upon the physician’s recommendation. If postponement is necessary due to chronic illness or other special circumstances, it should ideally not exceed six months.
