What is a hepatitis virus carrier?
Disease description:
After today’s follow-up examination, the doctor told me that my recovery is going very well and advised me to avoid contact with hepatitis virus carriers. What exactly is a “hepatitis virus carrier”?
In clinical practice, a “hepatitis virus carrier” refers to an individual infected with a hepatitis virus but without evidence of hepatic inflammation, cirrhosis, or other liver-related pathology. Among hepatitis virus carriers, hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers are the most commonly encountered in clinical settings. Diagnosis of an HBV carrier requires fulfillment of two key criteria: (1) clear evidence of active HBV replication within the patient’s body, and (2) persistently normal liver function tests, normal hepatic imaging findings, and absence of any clinical symptoms.
