When is the latest time to administer the first dose of the Japanese encephalitis attenuated vaccine?

Disease description:

My baby recently needs to receive the Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine. However, I contacted the outpatient clinic and was told they only have the live attenuated JE vaccine—not the inactivated version—and asked whether I would like to proceed with vaccination. I’m unsure whether my child has reached the appropriate age for vaccination. Could you please tell me the latest recommended age for administering the first dose of the live attenuated JE vaccine?

Dr. Xie Zixing
The live attenuated Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine requires the first dose to be administered at 1 year of age. A total of three doses are needed: the second (booster) dose should be given at 2 years of age, and the third (final) dose at 7 years of age. The JE vaccine prevents epidemic Japanese encephalitis and helps reduce complications in infected children; therefore, timely vaccination is recommended for all eligible children.
