My classmate and I are both currently breastfeeding. She resumed her menstrual cycle quite early, whereas I still haven’t had a period after one year of breastfeeding. Is it better to resume menstruation earlier or later during lactation?

There is no strict rule regarding whether it is better for menstruation to resume early or late during lactation. As long as the woman experiences no discomfort, menstruation typically does not adversely affect her health. Due to significant individual variation, the timing of menstrual resumption during lactation differs among women. Some women may experience relatively rapid recovery of ovarian function and gradually resume menstruation within one to six months postpartum; others may require approximately one year for menstrual cycles to return.
