What causes narcolepsy?
Disease description:
Recently, my father has been sleeping for unusually long periods. The doctor diagnosed him with hypersomnia. What causes this condition?
In clinical practice, there are numerous causes of hypersomnia. It may result from conditions such as intracerebral hemorrhage or cerebral infarction, leading to cerebral ischemia, necrosis, and functional impairment, thereby causing hypersomnia. Alternatively, it may stem from epilepsy—characterized by abnormal neuronal discharges—if frequent seizures cause brain damage, which can also lead to hypersomnia.
