In general, the risk of developing rabies after being scratched by a cat is relatively low—approximately 1% to 2%. Nevertheless, rabies vaccination is still required. Failure to maintain proper personal hygiene and omission of rabies vaccination following a cat scratch significantly increases the risk of infection and may adversely affect one’s health; therefore, rabies vaccination serves as an effective preventive measure. Additionally, after being scratched by a cat, the wound should be thoroughly washed with soap and water, followed by disinfection with iodophor to prevent infection.
