Can urticaria (hives) be transmitted to others?
Disease description:
My child has developed hives, but they still need to attend school regularly. Are hives contagious to others?
Urticaria is not contagious. It is commonly triggered by allergic reactions to foods or medications, as well as by physical stimuli or excessive mental stress, leading to the appearance of red, raised, itchy wheals on the skin. In severe cases, symptoms such as nausea and vomiting may occur; however, urticaria is non-infectious. Treatment options include oral antihistamines, immunosuppressants, and topical therapies.
