Skin Allergic Reactions to Insect Bites
Disease description:
I am a 23-year-old woman. As the weather grows increasingly hot, mosquitoes and other insects are becoming more prevalent. I would like to learn about the symptoms of allergic reactions to insect bites on the skin.
Allergic skin reactions to insect bites typically manifest as large, bright red or dark red, edematous papules at the site of the bite, often with tiny vesicles at the apex and a sensation of burning. When numerous lesions are present and pruritus is severe, excoriations, blood crusts, serous exudate, and hemorrhagic exudate may appear on the patient’s skin or in the surrounding areas. Excessive scratching in certain areas may lead to epidermal erosion or ulceration, and even localized erythema, swelling, tenderness, and pain. Secondary infection may result in regional lymphadenopathy.
