Disease description:

Many members of my family have bromhidrosis, so I also have it. Now that I’m pregnant, I’m concerned that bromhidrosis might be passed on to my baby. Therefore, I’d like to ask whether the genetic transmission of bromhidrosis can be prevented.

Currently, there are no established medical techniques capable of blocking the transmission of genes responsible for axillary osmidrosis (commonly known as “fox odor”). Therefore, once the condition manifests, its genetic transmission cannot be prevented. This disorder is predominantly influenced by hereditary factors; if a first-degree relative has axillary osmidrosis, the child has a relatively high likelihood of inheriting it. Axillary osmidrosis generally does not affect physical health, lifespan, or physical appearance. However, it may lead to psychological distress in affected individuals. Patients may opt for surgical or other interventions to suppress or permanently eliminate the condition.
