How can I determine whether I have bromhidrosis?
Disease description:
I’ve noticed an unusual odor on my body and am worried that I might have bromhidrosis (axillary osmidrosis). How can I determine whether I actually have it?
You can self-assess for bromhidrosis (axillary osmidrosis) by evaluating odor: wipe the underarm hair area with a towel or tissue, then smell the cloth or tissue. If a foul or unusual odor is detected—especially after physical activity and sweating—this may indicate bromhidrosis. Not only will you notice the strong, pungent smell clearly, but others around you may also detect it. Additionally, observe your clothing: yellowish discoloration often appears on the underarm areas of garments worn daily. You may also check for signs of mold or foreign substances on the underarm hair. The presence of any one of these signs suggests bromhidrosis.
