Why Can’t One Smell Their Own Body Odor (Fox Odor)?
Disease description:
I have a friend nearby who has bromhidrosis, yet he seems unaware of it. Why can’t a person smell their own bromhidrosis?
Patients with bromhidrosis are generally accustomed to their own odor and therefore pay little attention to it. Much like how people gradually adapt to and feel comfortable in a given environment after prolonged exposure, individuals with bromhidrosis become desensitized to their own smell. Moreover, the odor associated with bromhidrosis is typically only noticeable during physical activity; at rest, the odor is usually mild and often goes unnoticed by the patient themselves. However, others nearby may readily detect it.
