What are the common diseases associated with the Pericardium Meridian?
Disease description:
I heard someone mention the Pericardium Meridian the other day, but I’m not sure what it is—I’d like to learn more about it. What are the common disorders associated with the Pericardium Meridian?
The Pericardium Meridian is a term used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), specifically referring to the Hand Jueyin Pericardium Meridian—one of the body’s twelve primary meridians. It governs disorders of the heart, chest, stomach, and mental-emotional functions, as well as other conditions affecting regions traversed by the meridian. When the Pericardium Meridian becomes obstructed, symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, chest tightness, and chest discomfort may arise, along with insomnia, stroke, epilepsy, and syncope. Stagnation within the Pericardium Meridian can lead to chest tightness and chest pain; in severe cases, it may contribute to coronary artery disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, or even sudden cardiac death.
