Disease description:

I’ve been experiencing intense itching in the middle of my feet while walking over the past two days, which has caused me to suffer from insomnia at night. Why does the itching in the center of my soles worsen the more I scratch it?

Itching in the center of the sole that worsens with scratching may be caused by inflammatory skin conditions such as dermatitis or eczema, often presenting with red rashes on the soles accompanied by pruritus. Alternatively, it could result from a superficial fungal infection—commonly known as “athlete’s foot” (tinea pedis). First, the underlying cause must be accurately identified before initiating targeted treatment. If eczema is responsible, antihistamines (e.g., loratadine tablets) may be prescribed. If athlete’s foot is confirmed, antifungal medications should be used.
