What Are the Treatment Options for Tinea Cruris?
Disease description:
The child has tinea cruris (jock itch), presenting with red patches and papules on the buttocks. What are the treatment options for tinea cruris?
Tinea cruris is primarily treated with medications, which include topical and oral antifungal agents. Commonly used drugs belong to the imidazole and allylamine classes. Under a physician’s guidance, topical agents such as miconazole and terbinafine may be prescribed. For patients who respond poorly to topical therapy, oral antifungal treatment—such as itraconazole—may be considered. In cases complicated by secondary bacterial infection, antibiotic therapy may be added.
