Scars resulting from mosquito bites can be treated using different methods depending on their nature, size, and severity. If the scar is caused by a puncture wound, it is typically considered post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and often resolves spontaneously within several months. Alternatively, topical depigmenting agents may be used under medical supervision. For scars following skin abrasions or excoriations, initial pharmacological treatment is recommended; laser therapy may be considered if necessary. Scars arising from localized inflammatory reactions exacerbated by scratching—and subsequent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after healing—can be managed with topical anthraquinone preparations combined with oral vitamin C supplementation, which demonstrates some efficacy in lightening pigmented lesions. Patients are advised to avoid scratching mosquito bites to prevent scar formation.
