Newborns have highly sensitive skin, so mosquito bites often cause erythematous plaques; in some cases, they may even lead to vesicles and exudation. Severe reactions can also produce systemic symptoms. For management, if there is no skin breakage, the affected area should first be gently cleansed with warm water—or the infant may take a warm bath—and clothing, bed linens, and other items should be thoroughly cleaned and changed. Given the infant’s young age, topical anti-itch and antiallergic ointments are recommended as initial treatment.
