Frequent nocturnal urination (waking up at night to urinate) may indicate prostatitis. Prostatitis can cause symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, and incomplete bladder emptying—potentially leading to increased nocturia. However, frequent nighttime urination may also stem from other causes—for instance, excessive fluid intake, particularly close to bedtime, which can increase nocturnal urine production. It may also be associated with diabetes mellitus, a condition commonly accompanied by nocturia.
