Can children with epilepsy receive the Japanese encephalitis vaccine?
Disease description:
My child has pediatric epilepsy. It’s time for vaccinations recently, but I’m unsure whether vaccination is safe. Can children with epilepsy receive the Japanese encephalitis vaccine?
Children with epilepsy can generally receive the Japanese encephalitis and hepatitis B vaccines; however, the hepatitis B vaccine should only be administered when the child’s epilepsy is well-controlled. Children diagnosed with epilepsy must take their prescribed medications regularly and must not adjust the dosage—either increasing or decreasing it—without medical supervision, as this may trigger seizures. Additionally, maintaining a calm and relaxed mindset in daily life is essential; avoid causing excessive tension or anxiety in the child.
