If a child develops heat rash (miliaria) and the condition is mild, applying calamine powder after bathing may help. It is important to keep the skin clean and dry and avoid excessive sweating. For more severe cases, topical anti-inflammatory ointments—such as mometasone furoate cream—may be used under medical guidance. If the rash becomes infected with pus, fusidic acid cream may be prescribed by a physician. For pronounced pruritus (itching), calamine lotion may be applied as directed by a healthcare provider.
