Health Benefits and Effects of Drinking Ai (Mugwort) Infusion
Disease description:
I’ve been experiencing irregular menstruation recently, and for the past two months, I’ve also had some abdominal discomfort. A friend suggested drinking mugwort leaf (Artemisia argyi) tea. Could you please tell me about the benefits and effects of drinking mugwort tea?
Drinking mugwort (Artemisia argyi) tea offers numerous benefits for women. It helps warm the meridians and invigorate blood circulation, effectively alleviating symptoms associated with “cold uterus” (a TCM concept), such as dysmenorrhea, scanty menstrual flow, abdominal pain during menstruation, and cold hands and feet. Moderately consuming mugwort tea may also help relieve pruritus (itchy skin), particularly when caused by cold-dampness. Additionally, mugwort tea has a stabilizing effect on pregnancy; however, it must be consumed in moderation—excessive intake is not recommended. Moreover, women should avoid drinking mugwort tea during menstruation to prevent over-stimulation of blood circulation, which could lead to menorrhagia and depletion of Qi and blood.
