Is it safe to consume garlic if you have high blood sugar and elevated uric acid levels?
Disease description:
I recently visited the hospital for a checkup and found that my blood glucose and uric acid levels are elevated. I enjoy eating garlic quite a lot, but I’m unsure whether it’s safe to consume regularly. May I ask: Is it safe for individuals with high blood glucose and elevated uric acid levels to eat garlic?
High blood sugar and elevated uric acid levels do not preclude the consumption of garlic. Garlic contains no sugar and is low in calories. It contains allicin and other bioactive compounds that can promote insulin secretion, offering potential benefits for individuals with high blood sugar. However, garlic is relatively high in carbohydrates; excessive intake may lead to increased blood glucose levels. Additionally, garlic has a very low purine content—only 8.7 mg of purine per 100 g—making it safe for individuals with elevated uric acid levels.
