Can Daktarin treat paronychia?
Disease description:
My older sister has developed paronychia, accompanied by pain and redness/swelling. Can Daktarin (miconazole) treat paronychia?
Daktarin (miconazole) can treat paronychia. However, Daktarin is an antifungal agent and is ineffective against paronychia caused by bacterial infection. Daktarin is primarily used to treat tinea capitis, tinea manuum, and tinea cruris, demonstrating antifungal activity. It may also be used for other superficial fungal skin infections and for the treatment of otitis externa. For paronychia, under a physician’s guidance, ichthammol ointment may be applied topically to the affected area, and antibiotic therapy may also be prescribed.
