Can clotrimazole-betamethasone cream be applied to mosquito bites?
Disease description:
My child is frequently bitten by mosquitoes. We have a compound ketoconazole cream at home—can this cream be applied to mosquito bites?
It is not recommended to apply compound ketoconazole cream to mosquito bites. Compound ketoconazole cream is a combination medication containing both an antifungal and an antibiotic, primarily used to treat fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, tinea corporis, tinea manuum, and tinea cruris.
For mosquito bites, it is advisable to cleanse the area with baking soda solution or mild soap to help relieve itching. Additionally, erythromycin ointment or mentholated camphor oil (Fengyoujing) may be applied to the affected site. Other traditional remedies include rubbing the bite area with a cut clove of garlic or applying the sap from crushed notoginseng (Panax notoginseng) leaves.
